Anya is an extremely sensitive, kind and shy child. In addition, the girl has been insulin-dependent for almost two years. Type I diabetes mellitus – this diagnosis was made to Anya in the surgical department of the hospital, where the girl was admitted with suspected acute appendicitis. All the symptoms were as if from medical textbooks: sudden weight loss, incessant thirst and terrible abdominal pain. Subsequently, the girl survived an eight-day coma.
Today, Anya is already accustomed to the new way of life. Because of the bullying and excessive curiosity of some of her classmates, she now studies online. However, the disease is not even thinking of retreating: in addition to diabetes, Anya was diagnosed with thyroid nodules. And, worst of all, none of the treatments prescribed and approved by countless doctors help.
While a mother's soul is torn by pain and fear for her child, medical expenses do the same to the family budget. A single mother raises Anya and her older brother on her own, and even with a full-time job, she can't provide her children with everything they need. She and her son have to save on some food to buy Anya's medicines and sensors. The fifteen-year-old boy treats the situation with the understanding of an adult beyond his years. "Mom, it's okay," he assures her, "Just buy a sensor, and you'll be able to worry about Anya at work".
The woman works in shifts, from day to night. And only continuous blood sugar monitoring sensors give her a chance to leave Anya at home alone without the panic of late-onset hypoglycemia. Help a family that has been living in an eternal struggle for years to feel safe and confident in the future!
