In the ruins of the ancient palace located in Lviv there is a hospice department in which 15 elderly people live, if their existence there can be called life. These elderly people don’t have relatives who would come to visit them. In the hospice the roof is leaky, the walls are covered with mold and the toilets are broken. People have forgotten the taste of fish or meat. When they say, old age is not about joy, it’s about their life here.

Hospice is a place where people can decently spend the last moments of their life. In a small town of Uhniv in the Lviv Oblast the department with 15 hospice beds was inaugurated in 2008. Elderly people who remained alone and need care live here. Among the patients of the hospice there is a teacher with 44 years of experience, a nurse who worked at Chernobyl...

Unfortunately it seems that the government had used them when they were young and then they were thrown away like unnecessary things past their expiration date.

Living conditions in the hospice are awful: for a person only 5 UAH is allocated for food per day, medicines are not enough. Because of holes in the roof the walls are damp and the ceiling collapsed. Besides, here the toilets are in bad condition with plaster falling down. The shower has an old pallet and broken tiles.

We can change these people’s lives. Attitude towards the elderly has always been a measure of justice and civilized society.

The project provides for the renovation of two sanitary rooms in which there are toilets and washstands.
