Glib was born a healthy, cheerful boy. He grew and developed normally for his age, but everything changed when he turned one. The boy began to lose weight rapidly, became irritable, and was constantly thirsty. The pediatrician reassured his parents, saying, "He's teething, it will pass." But soon after, the child was lying in the intensive care unit. The diagnosis was terrible – type 1 diabetes, insulin-dependent.
Glib lay unconscious on life support for a week. Only thanks to God's care and the professionalism of the doctors did he come back to life. A week later, he was transferred to the endocrinology department, where the family began to learn a new way of life – life with diabetes.
The most painful thing for the little boy was not the dietary restrictions, but the daily insulin injections – six times a day – and checking his blood sugar with a glucometer 15 times a day. He was only one year old... and before he was admitted to intensive care, he was breastfed.
Three years ago, Glib developed complications – lipodystrophy (damage to subcutaneous tissue) from constant injections. Doctors insisted on purchasing an insulin pump to reduce the number of skin punctures. His parents had to buy a used one – a new one cost four times as much. They also tried sensors for continuous glucose monitoring. But this was an unaffordable expense for the family – four people, parents and two children, supported by a single father. His salary is barely enough to cover basic needs, let alone the full cost of treatment.
A glucometer is no longer an option – the skin on Glib's fingers has become too thin and cracked. Thanks to the pump and sensors, life began to improve: Glib started smiling again, stopped feeling like an outcast, and was able to live more freely. But without help, his parents will not be able to provide continuous treatment, in particular the monitoring sensors that save their son's life.
