Milanka is a very active and restless child who adores active games, constantly runs and jumps, and loves gymnastics above all else. She happily attends kindergarten, where she has many friends, and at home she constantly trains and dreams of competitive sport. The girl has an older brother who is her main support and source of strength in everything. At home, her beloved cat Murchyk always waits for her, greeting her when she comes back from kindergarten and loving to play – which always lifts Milana's spirits.
From birth, the girl grew up as a healthy, incredibly energetic, and cheerful child. But a few months ago, the family's ordinary life was crossed out by Milana's serious diagnosis – type 1 diabetes. The family is now learning to live with this illness at the stage of finding the right insulin doses and adapting. Milanka remains just as active, but due to her high level of physical activity her blood glucose changes in a flash – during her beloved running or exercises it can be very difficult. It is absolutely vital for her to continuously monitor her readings to avoid dangerous episodes.
Due to the war and a forced move to another city, the family's financial situation has become critical. The war took their home, stability, and livelihood, and the constant stress only worsens the child's diabetes. Her mother is raising two children on her own and simply cannot bear the enormous costs of treatment. Relatives and friends support them as best they can, but it is not enough to provide her daughter with continuous monitoring.
Milanka is in desperate need of continuous glucose monitoring sensors. For an active girl who does gymnastics, this is the only way to live without painful finger pricks every few minutes and to catch dangerous drops or spikes in blood sugar in time. Every day the girl proves that diabetes cannot take away her love of movement, sport, and life. But managing all the costs on their own is very difficult for the family. We can help Milanka pursue her dreams.
