Nine-year-old Illia is a boy who wins everyone over with his smile. From birth, he was called "smiley". This continued until he was three years old, when he contracted adenovirus at kindergarten. The illness led to complications. First, he developed purulent tonsillitis, and then Ilya ended up in the ENT department of the hospital, where he stayed for two weeks with a high fever. The doctors could not understand what was happening to the child. After his discharge, the story of his illness did not end – Illia's platelet count rose sharply. An examination by a hematologist revealed no problems. His worried mother took her son to various doctors to get a diagnosis, but to no avail. Until one of the doctors suggested testing for antibodies to Epstein-Barr. And this test finally came back positive.
At that time, Illia was only five years old. The disease destroyed the child's immune system, and a few years later, he received another terrible diagnosis: diabetes mellitus.
The boy has been living with diabetes for three years now. He still smiles, not fully understanding what this disease is and how insidious it is. For quite some time, his mother has been the only one working in the family. She is doing everything she can to provide her son with sensors for continuous blood sugar monitoring, but this is not cheap. Support Illia and his small but extremely strong family!
