For exactly half of his life, 19-year-old Yurii has been fighting a terrible disease. At the age of nine, the boy began to lose weight rapidly, and he began to experience constant thirst, lethargy, headaches, and sometimes even trembling limbs. Frightened, Yurii and his mother immediately went to get tests done, and the results confirmed their worst suspicions: the boy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
Since then, everything has turned upside down. Hospitals, insulin injections, blood sugar measurements, and constant monitoring have become the new norm that diabetes has forced upon him. The boy has to prick his fingers with a glucometer terribly often – up to ten times a day. It is especially difficult to control his sugar at night: to prevent sudden hypoglycemia, Yurii has to interrupt his sleep every night, sometimes even twice.
10 years of illness have left their mark on the young man’s body. His eyes and kidneys have suffered, and small blood vessels have been damaged. To prevent further complications, Yurii needs to perfectly control his blood sugar levels. This requires continuous glucose monitoring sensors – thanks to these devices, sugar is measured constantly and painlessly, and the results are sent directly to his mother’s phone. This will help prevent critical conditions that are so detrimental to the boy’s health.
Yuri is studying to be a programmer and is sincerely passionate about this profession, is fond of video editing and loves to ride a bike. Only the mother works in the family, and one salary does not cover all the needs, especially considering Yuri’s health. Stand on their side in this fight!
