In May 2018, Masha was diagnosed with diabetes and since then daily insulin injections and finger pricks have been her constant "companions". Until we bought sensors and a reader for Masha. Now the sensor is installed once every two weeks and constantly monitors glucose levels.

5 years ago in May, Masha felt a loss of strength, extreme thirst, and her weight dropped sharply. The family doctor recommended taking a blood test to check glucose levels.

With an analysis result of 14 mmol/l (with the norm being up to 5) the child was hospitalized in the endocrinology department of the Dnipro hospital. There the girl was examined, diabetes mellitus was confirmed and the insulin drugs Tresiba and NovoRapid were prescribed, which Masha uses to this day.

Since July 2022, Nikopol has been under artillery shelling, which caused Masha severe stress, leading to sharp spikes in glucose. The grandparents took the family to their village of Chkalovo. But soon a double grief happened: with a difference of 40 days, the grandparents died. Recently, Masha and her parents moved for the third time, to live with her grandmother on her father’s side.

Maria is in 6th grade. Her favorite subjects are Ukrainian and English languages, drawing. In peacetime, the girl attended acting classes, a swimming pool, an art studio, and fly yoga. For diabetes, physical activity is extremely important. In the village, Masha goes to hip-hop and karate classes.

Now Masha is in transition. Hormonal changes cause spikes in glucose, especially during sleep. It makes life very easy to use a sensor that performs a blood test every 5 minutes. When glucose critically decreases or increases, the device gives a signal and then Elena either gives Masha glucose or administers an additional dose of insulin.

The family turned to us for help in raising funds to purchase 24 Libre 2 sensors. One sensor lasts 14 days and costs 1 950 UAH. Dear friends, please lend a helping hand to Mariia!
