For most children, September 1 marks a day of new opportunities, reunions with friends, and the start of a new school year. But for many Ukrainian families, getting ready for school has become a serious challenge. War, forced displacement, job loss, and constant instability are forcing parents to choose between basic necessities and the ability to get their children ready for school.

This is particularly difficult for large families, single parents, IDP families, and people facing difficult life circumstances. For many children, a new backpack, notebooks, or school supplies are no longer a routine purchase but a necessity that the family cannot afford.

The Caritas-Kyiv Charitable Foundation is launching the "School backpack" campaign to support children from vulnerable groups and help them start the school year with a sense of confidence, care, and support.

We plan to prepare 100 school kits, which will include backpacks and basic school supplies necessary for learning.

The cost of one kit is 1,500 hryvnias. The total amount needed is 150,000 hryvnias.

Every donation to this campaign matters. It’s not just a backpack or a set of school supplies. It’s an opportunity for a child to come to school prepared, feel confident among their peers, and hold onto the joy of childhood even during difficult times.
