Nikol is an extremely responsible, sincere, and creative child. She loves to draw, sculpt with plasticine, invent her own stories, and even write a book. She dreams that her characters will one day come to life on the pages of a real publication. But every day, her time and energy are consumed by her illness – diabetes.
The girl fell ill when she was only five years old. Today she is thirteen, and she does not even remember what her everyday life was like before the illness. Now she looks like this: she has to measure her sugar every 2-3 hours, make adjustments, prick her fingers, change cannulas, and monitor every meal. Due to an autoimmune process, Nikol also develops thyroid goiter, and she is constantly monitored by an endocrinologist. All her fingers are pricked, her stomach is covered in injection marks. She is brave, but sometimes fatigue gets the better of her: tears, despair, and guilt come when she fails to keep her sugar levels normal.
Sometimes Nikol's blood sugar drops so low that she faints. Other times, it rises to critical levels. The worst part is that without constant monitoring, she and her loved ones simply don't notice these changes. So, for Nikol's safety, her fingers suffer constantly.
However, there is another solution – sensors for continuous blood sugar monitoring constantly measure the girl's blood glucose and help to detect and avoid dangerous conditions in time. With them, Nikol can feel like a child at least a little bit: she doesn't have to keep reminding herself to check her sugar, she doesn't have to worry about losing her glucometer, and she doesn't have to deny herself normal things. But now, unfortunately, affording sensors for the family means giving up normal things – not because of safety, but because of the price. Her mother is raising her daughter alone and works mainly from home. All the necessary medications, vitamins, and tests cost a lot of money, and life-saving devices are simply beyond the family's means. Give Nikol more freedom, more joy, more life. And maybe a little less pain – physical and emotional.
