West syndrome is not a verdict

Zhenia was born on December, 20, 2012. Healthy boy was expected to be born. But at his birth, due to the negligence of doctors, a baby had severe birth injuries and was in coma during 8 days. Doctors from Ukraine were powerless to fix something and the child was treated abroad. Now, the long-term rehabilitation is waited for a baby. He is waited for rehabilitation at the German HELIOS Klinik Holthausen. And for this 22 270 Euros is needed. But, the family doesn’t have such amount of money, where only father has a work.

It has been tried for a long period of time in Ukraine to find out what Zhenia is suffering and how he was treated. The prescribed treatment only worsened condition of the child and when Zhenia was 3.5 months he was sent to home without giving perspectives on life. After birth injury the boy couldn’t hold his head and suffered from constant epileptic seizures. In what is wrong with Zhenia, doctors do not recognize their quilt. They call it as fatal coincidence. But his parents aren’t willing to put up with it and continued to fight for their son.

Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace has already raised money for Zhenia treatment. Thanks to many donors Zhenia passed examination and treatment in Elizabeth-Krankenhaus Hospital (Academic Hospital of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany). Experts from Germany could help: to minimize cramping, to find anticonvulsant medication, to pass physiotherapy rehabilitation, to fix digestive system. Zhenia finally began to put on weight.

The most important thing is Zhenia was finally put a proper diagnoses: West syndrome, delayed mental and psychomotor development. Unfortunately, the part of brain, responsible for speech and ability to walk, was died off. But all reflexes are present and there is a chance to restore them. The regular rehabilitation is required for this. Do not let the boy miss this chance! This program is of course designed for years, but parents for this are totally ready.

German HELIOS Klinik Holthausen is ready to take Zhenia and sent the invoice for 22 270 Euros. It is hard to imagine the grief and despair the parents faced with. They love their children very much but the material state of family couldn’t send Zhenia to Germany. Only the father has a job. Also there is the eldest daughter in family. Money is raised for other sources: with the support of friends and just good people.
