Slava needs help with treatment

15 year old Slava is a kind, sympathetic and shy guy. He loves to study and takes an active part in the life of the Lyceum. Last year, during the spring break, Slava's leg ached. There were no obvious injuries, they thought that I twisted my leg when I played badminton with Paul's younger sister. After two weeks, the pain did not stop and a swelling appeared under the knee. Mom and son went to the surgeon, he sent to vascular surgeon at the Institute of Emergency Surgery. There they did an ultrasound scan and with a conclusion was sent to a traumatologist and oncologist. Slavik was given a difficult diagnosis: osteosarcoma of the left fibula.

According to the treatment protocol, Slava has already completed 5 blocks of operating chemotherapy. "He tolerated therapy well until the 5th block", writes the boy’s mother, "then there was liver and kidney failure due to intoxication with specific medications. Slava spent two weeks in the intensive care unit of Okhmatdet on dialysis and an artificial liver. Methotrexate was removed from the treatment protocol".

In October, Slava underwent an operation to resect the fibula together with the tumor. Then the boy underwent 4 postoperative chemotherapy blocks. As a result of the transection of the peroneal nerve during the operation, Slava has paresis of the foot and he has to constantly wear an orthosis.

Slava does not interrupt relations with classmates. In the first semester, the guy helped a classmate a couple of times with a creative assignment. His former class teacher is very supportive of the boy. Slava sings and plays the guitar. Before his illness he played electric guitar in a local band. The boy is fond of history, last year he took 3rd place in the small academy of sciences of the region, and 1st place in the Olympiad in computer science in the Kharkiv region.

Slavik is now undergoing the second stage of treatment under the protocol. He needs the drug Holoxan 1g, 15 bottles of which cost 20,751 UAH. This  amount is large for the boy's parents. His father works as a driver, the mother is a housewife. In addition to Slava, the family has one more child. Polina is 9 years old and has a cardiological disability.
