Sofia Has a Chance for a Healthy Life

Little Sofia loves music: she plays the guitar, sings, eagerly explores the world of toys, and attends sessions with a neuropsychologist and a speech therapist. Despite her young age, this friendly and clever little girl already knows what it means to fight for her life…

Sofia is 4 years old, and behind her small shoulders lie four complex surgeries. She was born with choanal atresia — a congenital blockage of the nasal passages, which made it hard for her to breathe. Later, doctors diagnosed craniosynostosis — an abnormal development of the skull, and surgeons had to enlarge its volume. Then her breathing became difficult again, requiring another operation. Later came a new challenge: hydrocephalus. Fluid began to accumulate in her brain, so Sofia had a shunt installed to drain the excess fluid. All of this is now behind the smiling little girl who dreams of a simple, healthy life. And now she has a chance — the best neurosurgeons may operate on her. But she needs our support to make this possible.

A team of foreign neurosurgeons is coming to Ukraine to operate on the most complex cases together with the doctors from "Ohmatdyt." For Sofia, this is a real hope for a healthy future. The operation will be free, but the family will have to purchase some of the consumables themselves, the cost of which is UAH 184,218.

For the family, this is an unaffordable amount. They paid for all previous surgeries on their own, but now they have no such possibility... Currently, the family receives state assistance of 2,361 hryvnias per month and sincerely hopes for the support of kind-hearted people.

Despite everything, Sofia stays strong! She smiles, dreams, enjoys every day, and does everything to be a normal child with a happy childhood.
