Sofiika was born fighting for her life

The umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, cutting off her air supply. She suffered severe asphyxia. The first seconds of her life became a struggle for survival. Fourteen days in intensive care. Another month in the intensive care unit. She couldn't eat on her own and had to be fed through a tube. Her tiny body fought when it should have been sleeping peacefully in her mother's arms. And at one year old, the words that broke her parents' hearts were spoken: spastic tetraparesis, anatomical brain damage, hydrocephalus, corpus callosum hypoplasia, cysts.

Today, Sofiika is 6 years old. She cannot sit. She cannot walk. She cannot talk. She cannot eat on her own. But she is alive. She is happy. She loves.

Sofia loves to play with her older brother. She responds to tenderness, light, and voices. In her eyes, there is a desire to live, to develop, to be like other children. After treatment, the level of spasticity in her body decreased, she began to make new sounds, and her response to speech improved.  

Sofia fights every day alongside her family. Without pause, without rest. Treatment and rehabilitation are the only way to give her a chance for the future. And right now, she needs a new course of rehabilitation.

“We, her parents, are begging for help. We dream of hearing her first ‘mama,’ we dream of seeing her sit up on her own, laugh, and take steps toward the world,” says the girl's mother.
