This smiling girl was born at 34 weeks. She was named Sofia, and at first she breathed on her own – her parents believed everything would be alright. But within just a few hours the tiny girl stopped breathing. Emergency intubation, medically induced sleep, a ventilator – and instead of joy came fear. And not without reason, as Sofia was later diagnosed with hypoxia, which led to her being admitted to intensive care, where she spent a full 5 months. The child survived pneumonia, three blood transfusions, anemia, and tube feeding.
And so Sofia's first year of life passed in hospitals – bronchiolitis, seizures, and influenza. In time, doctors established a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, spastic double hemiplegia, and delayed speech development. Moving is very difficult for her – every movement requires titanic effort.
But Sofiika fights. Her mother does everything she can every day: massages, swimming pool sessions, therapies. And the girl responds to this love – she is smiling, bright, and extraordinary. Rehabilitation gives her the chance to become freer and more independent: Sofiika has begun to stand and hold her position on high knees for 9 seconds, and she is now pulling herself up at a support. Thanks to work with a speech therapist, the girl's vocabulary has grown and she is beginning to talk. She has also developed an understanding of how to put on and take off clothing.
Rehabilitation must continue, as a systematic approach is bearing fruit. Please support Sofiika so that she can continue her treatment. Together we can give her a childhood and a sincere smile without pain!
