Sofiika is in fourth grade. She is a very talented, intelligent, and creative girl. She is physically active, loves to draw, play chess, and is passionate about video editing. Sofia excels in the subjects of the modern school curriculum, and she truly loves going to school.
But despite such an active and interesting life, Sofiika has to fight a disease every day – type 1 diabetes, which she was diagnosed with at the age of five. For a child, this means daily monitoring: constant blood sugar measurements, insulin injections, and strict dietary control. At this age, the body is still growing and developing, so every day is a real challenge.
In four years, Sofiika learned to inject insulin under the supervision of her father or mother. The girl measures her blood sugar level completely on her own. She is learning to count carbohydrates in different foods and understand how much she can eat. The child's greatest fear right now is being left without a glucose monitoring sensor at school, as she herself says: "Because I'm alone there and I can get confused".
Her mother is asking for help in purchasing sensors for Sofiika. Diabetes is a daily struggle for the health and life of a child! Help give her little fingers a break from constant pricks. Sofiika did not choose this life. She now has to learn to live with it.
