The sad math of Andrii's health

Andrii is a very smart, hardworking and talented child. He plays football and loves to fish. When he was five years old, the boy's life was changed forever by a terrible diagnosis: type I diabetes, insulin-dependent. Three days in the intensive care unit and two weeks in the regional specialized endocrine center were only the beginning of the boy's daily and continuous struggle for life.

It was incredibly difficult for a five-year-old child to understand and accept this incurable disease. The once cheerful and sunny Andrii was overwhelmed with sadness – the boy did not understand why he was different from everyone else. Constant blood sugar monitoring has turned a carefree childhood into a complex mathematical function: two dozen finger pricks a day and another dozen at night, four short-acting insulin injections and one long-acting insulin injection, counting carbohydrates to the quarter gram – and so on every day, every hour, forever. But Andrii's family didn't give up, following all the requirements and recommendations, not missing a single scheduled visit or hospitalization.

To improve the boy's health, doctors recommended that he get a sensor for round-the-clock blood sugar monitoring, which would allow him to track changes in glucose levels in real time to avoid the risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. However, the purchase of the sensor requires a lot of money, and the family, where only the father works, cannot afford it, so they asked for help.

Childhood is one of the brightest periods of life. Help Andrii to remember it not only as harsh and painful!
