A world of sounds for Sonia

Those who have been with us for a long time remember Sonia: seven years ago we bought her hearing aids as a result of the Interpipe Dnipro Half Marathon 2018 fundraising marathon. Now Sofiia is in the tenth grade and dreams of becoming a designer. Her hearing aids were worn out, the cost of new ones was unaffordable for the family. Marathons have remained somewhere in peaceful life, but the culture of charity in Ukraine is developing. Together we can keep Sonia connected to the world!

Sofiia has bilateral sensorineural hearing loss: her right ear cannot hear at all, and her left ear can only hear loud sounds up close.

Her parents noticed her hearing problems when Sonia was three years old: she did not talk, did not respond to her name. At the age of four, the girl was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss.

Sofiia went to first grade wearing hearing aids that her relatives bought her. Unfortunately, they didn’t fit well, and the girl’s hearing was getting worse.

Then there was a campaign, during which our friends – participants of the half marathon – raised funds for Sonia’s hearing aids. The idea was a success! "She unwraps a candy – and hears the rustle of a wrapper!”, her mother wrote to us. – She puts them on herself in the morning, takes them off in the evening and is very happy. Even when you speak in a whisper, she hears. Thank you very much!”.

But the service life of hearing aids is five years. The devices that we bought as a result of that campaign are already worn out: they buzz, squeak and hiss.

Sofiia loves to draw anime on a tablet and dances with pleasure on the school stage. After graduating from school, she wants to become a graphic designer, and also dreams of a modeling career.

Hearing aids are the only opportunity for Sonia to study, communicate, do her favorite things, and plan her future. Without them, she will be isolated from the outside world.
