Taras is ten years old. He has a huge heart. He also has diabetes. He learned to be an adult before he learned not to be afraid of injections. Six months ago, his mother said, "Taras, you will now have a new lifestyle. We can handle this". She was smiling then, but her eyes were red.
Taras is better at counting bread units than multiplication tables. He knows what a glucometer, hypoglycemia, and insulin are. He knows that it's okay not to eat candy on his birthday – the main thing is to stay healthy.
Despite daily challenges, Taras has dreams and victories. He does karate and already has awards and prizes from competitions. He loves to run around with a ball in the yard, play soccer, and dreams of one day playing in a big stadium like a real player. His eyes light up when he talks about sports. Because there is freedom, movement, and joy there.
The boy's mother is raising him alone. With back pain that sometimes prevents her from getting up. But she always gets up. Because Taras is waiting for her to hold his hand during the injection. Because strength is not always loud. Sometimes it lives in the silence of the kitchen when his mother sits down heavily on a chair after measuring her sugar levels at night. And in the eyes of Taras, who has learned to smile even when it hurts. They are very close. Together. But right now, it's really not easy for them. And they need support – Taras needs sensors for continuous monitoring of his sugar levels.
