Warm and purr

The shelter built by kind people for stray cats needs repair. It is housed it a former cowshed and it is impossible to heat it up more than 9ºC with a wood heater. Little furry friends are freezing and begging for our help. Let us gather money to winterize the shelter.

A stray cat had her kittens in a yard under a refuse store. She is lying on a concrete floor and tries to heat her children with her warmth. Basement windows are nailed up and steel doors are firmly closed. It is wintertime. There is no place on the earth for the little furry things. Hundreds of feet walk by indifferently. The temperature is freezing and warmth is fading way from little bodies. Suddenly a man bends down and looks under a refuse store. Then he finds an empty box in a refuse store and places kittens into it. He takes a cat. He has heard there is shelter for stray animals somewhere near the city and in the morning he will carry a cat and her kittens there. In such a way a Cat in her family find themselves in a big family with more than two hundred cats.

The shelter is not rich however the food is ok and the kittens grow rapidly. In summer cats bask under warm sun in the yard and do not even return to the house. But winter comes again. The yard is covered with snow, the windows are frosty and cats are flocked up in the room and try to warm up each other. There is a heater in the room and it is heated with wood from morning till night. But it is impossible to heat the air in the room more than 9ºC. The shelter is located in a former cowshed with thin walls and without a loft. It is freezing and some cats get sick: those who are in the worst are taken away by volunteers.

It is a real story and a real shelter which was built by concerned people with their own hands. It has been in need for repair for a long time, but these people do not have enough money to repair and winterize it.
