This girl is one in a million
Loving parents, a four-year-old son and a two-year-old honey-daughter: even in the spring they were happy, despite the pandemic and quarantine. In May, their life turned upside down: the youngest Anechka felt bad. Hospital, tests, bone marrow puncture ... The parents did not realize the diagnosis right away: refractory anemia with an excess of blasts. There is one salvation for Anya: a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. Transplantation in the next 3-4 months will give Anna 80 chances out of a hundred. There is practically no chance without a transplant.
It all started with a hemorrhagic rash. An experienced family doctor was alarmed and sent Anya to the Dnieper Children's Hospital No. 6, where there is a hematologist. Thrombocyte counts were low and Anya began to receive blood products. And after that, blasts were found in the blood. Anya was transferred to the Dnipro Regional Children's Hospital. Bone marrow examination results showed acute myeloblastic leukemia.
In this disease, bone marrow transplantation is indicated. Anya's relatives, including her 4-year-old brother, underwent HLA typing: none of them are suitable as donors. In June, Anya and her parents flew to Belarus. There, Anya was examined by the Minsk doctors and made another diagnosis: myelodysplastic syndrome: refractory anemia with an excess of blasts.
This disease in children of this age is found once in one case in a million. It can proceed in different ways. With such an acute form in which it manifests itself in Anya, there is only one salvation - bone marrow transplantation.
Prior to transplantation, she is shown only supportive blood transfusions; chemotherapy is not required. But the donor must be found as soon as possible: in 3-4 months, according to doctors' forecasts, the disease may worsen, and then even a bone marrow transplant may not save her. If BMT is performed in the next 3 months, Anya has 80 out of 100 chances of a successful treatment result.
In August, Anya returned to Dnipro, she is receiving blood transfusions at the CSTO, and in Minsk, meanwhile, they completed the search for a donor in Belarus and began a search in the international registry.
The parents managed to collect and pay the first installment of $ 20,000 to the Minsk Republican Center for Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology. To save Anya, you need to find another $ 130,000. The documents have been sent to the Ministry of Health for obtaining the state quota; there is no answer yet. Modern medicine has every opportunity to save the baby. If each of us transfers the amount we can, Anya will live. Let's take the baby out of the clutches of the disease!
We plan to fundraise a part of the required amount - UAH 1000,000 on dobro.ua.
