Sugar that took away freedom

      On October 3, 2023, her life was divided into “before” and “after.” That day, the girl suddenly felt ill: she experienced intense thirst, fatigue, and irritability. Her mother asked a neighbor to measure her glucose level. The result was shocking—26 mmol/L. Maria was rushed to the hospital, where the level rose to 28. She was immediately transferred to intensive care. That is how the family “met” type 1 diabetes.
      In accordance with cooperation agreement No. 21 between the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the charity operator POMAGAEM Charitable Foundation dated August 31, 2020, and supplementary agreement No. 21. 335 dated September 11, 2025, the project “Sugar That Took Away Freedom” was posted on the website dobro.ua with the aim of attracting donations to pay for the treatment of Maria Bogdanova.
During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use part of the funds collected on the website of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange Charitable Foundation (dobro.ua) to purchase some of the sensors for the girl. Therefore, according to letter No. 498 dated 23.09.2025, we received the collected amount of UAH 23,303.00 (twenty-three thousand three hundred and three hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's account and continued the collection on the dobro.ua platform. 
      In September of this year, we purchased Sibionix sensors for Maria in the amount of UAH 23,303.00 (twenty-three thousand three hundred and three hryvnias, 00 kopecks).
      On October 27, 2025, thanks to the donors of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange who closed Maria's fundraiser, we received 37,177.00 UAH (thirty-seven thousand one hundred seventy-seven hryvnia, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's current account to pay for the child's treatment and project administration. 
      In November of this year, we purchased Sibionix sensors and consumables for them for the girl in the amount of 34,297.00 UAH (thirty-four thousand two hundred ninety-seven hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and also paid for the administration of the project.
      Maria loves to create: she is passionate about drawing and sculpting. Recently, she went to the picturesque town of Truskavets for rehabilitation, where she enjoyed the clean air, drank healing water from the pump room, and underwent wellness procedures. There was even an exciting excursion to the mountains! 
      Now the girl has returned to school, which she really enjoys. A caring teacher and many friends make Mariya's time at school joyful, so she goes there with pleasure. But there are also moments of reflection when the painful question arises: “Mommy, why did I get sick?” It is a real cry from the heart.
      Fortunately, thanks to the support of caring people, there is no longer a need to constantly prick her fingers. Her mother sincerely thanks everyone who has reached out to help their family.
      Currently, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the girl's needs.
