Sugar that took away freedom

      On 3 October 2023, her life was divided into ‘before’ and ‘after.’ That day, the girl suddenly felt ill: she experienced intense thirst, fatigue, and irritability. Her mother asked a neighbour to measure her glucose level. The result was shocking – 26 mmol/l. Maria was rushed to the hospital, where the level rose to 28. She was immediately transferred to intensive care. That is how the family ‘got acquainted’ with type 1 diabetes.
      In accordance with cooperation agreement No. 21 between the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the charity operator POMAGAEM Charitable Foundation dated 31 August 2020 and supplementary agreement No. 21. 335 dated 11 September 2025, the project ‘Sugar that took away freedom’ was posted on the website dobro.ua with the aim of attracting donations to pay for the treatment of Maria Bogdanova.
      During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use part of the funds collected on the website of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange Charitable Foundation (dobro.ua) to purchase some of the sensors for the girl. Therefore, according to letter No. 498 dated 23 September 2025, we received the collected amount of 23,303.00 UAH (twenty-three thousand three hundred and three hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's account and continued the collection on the dobro.ua platform. 
      In September of this year, we purchased Sibionix sensors for Maria in the amount of 23,303.00 UAH (twenty-three thousand three hundred and three hryvnias, 00 kopecks).
      Mariyka recently returned from Kyiv, where she was treated at the Okhmatdyt hospital. She is a cheerful and energetic girl who enjoys attending art classes. Mariyka dreams that her illness will recede so that she can run and do physical education. She is fascinated by mathematics.

   Currently, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the girl's needs, and the project is still raising funds.
