Animals that experience war – help the zoo

This spring, the Kharkiv Zoo opened its doors to visitors for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Residents of Kharkiv, as well as animals – residents of the zoo, despite the shelling, are returning to their usual lives. For Kharkiv residents, this is an opportunity to spend quality time with their relatives and children, a sense of life, and to rejoice together.

The last year was very difficult for the zoo, from the first day of the full-scale invasion, the administration of the institution was not sure about the future, every day it was necessary to think about how to provide the animals with food, water, other necessary things, as well as take care of the zoo workers. The spring of 2022 was a real test – constant artillery shelling, explosions, rocket debris on the territory of the zoo, some workers were evacuated from Kharkiv, and there was a shortage of personnel, but there were also those who simply stayed to live with the animals.

The zoo survived that difficult period, survived an equally difficult winter, and all this did not happen without our support, because we repeatedly provided the animals with food. Today, the zoo is coming back to life, but the issue of provision is still relevant. Charitable support has now decreased and there is a need for animal meat.

Our goal is to provide the zoo with 1,500 kg of meat (approximately 100 kg of meat is needed per day to feed the animals). The zoo itself has the following types of carnivores: bears, wolves, hyenas, lions, lynxes, and tigers.

The Kharkiv Zoo has an important historical value, and is also an object of the Kharkiv Natural Reserve Fund of national significance. This is the first zoo in Ukraine (founded in 1895), and also one of the twenty oldest in the world.

By supporting each other, we become unbreakable. Only together and in unity will we overcome these dark times and win.
