In the captivity of a rare disease!

UPD (July 2017): Tonight our Polina Shapoval died. For several years she fought courageously against Fanconi's rare anemia. The girl was able to go to Turkey for treatment. Even survive transplantation. However, the child's exhausted body could not stand the further stage. Donor bone marrow did not take root. Intestinal and then pulmonary hemorrhage opened in the Field... Sincere condolences to her mother, who did everything possible to tear her daughter out of her sickness. We cry with you. Fly, little angel, to a better world!

Polina Shapovalova from Dnipro is 7 years old. The little was born in the 34th week of pregnancy as a result of a long and difficult treatment from infertility. When parents became completely despaired, God sent them a baby. The baby was so tiny that the priest at a christening ceremony was afraid to take her in his arms. But even at that time, it was clear that there is a spirit of a real fighter in this fragile body.

On the fifth day of Polina‘s life, the doctors have found out 3 heart diseases. Because of this, the 2.5-year-old girl has bravely undergone an operation. It seemed that everything is behind, but the indicators of platelets have decreased dramatically at the postoperative period. The long and painful treatment in the hematology department has begun, but it only temporarily brought some improvement. Weakness and the constant feeling of extreme fatigue have been following Polina for 5 years already.

4 bone marrow punctures gave uncertain results, and only in June of the current year, another examination in OHMATDIT has just stunned Polya’s parents - the girl has the serious form of Fanconi anemia. This disease is very rare, it occurs with a frequency of 1 per 350,000 newborns. There is no treatment, the only solution is the bone marrow transplantation.

Now Polina is kept alive by constant blood transfusions that bring relief for a short time. Even after transfusions, platelet rates remain very low, and the hemoglobin does not rise above the level of 46 units. Transplantation is the only hope for Polina to stay alive, but operations of such level are conducted only abroad.

Presently power of Ukraine gave to Paulina a warranty sheet on payment of search of donor and realization of ТКМ. A mother expects an answer about the willingness of them to accept, and at once will take off there with a daughter. As experience shows, facilities, that distinguishes the state, does not seize for completion of treatment in foreign clinics. In addition, after transplantation every 3 months necessary inspections for that parents pay.

Lifetime, that is defined by cruel statistics for such children like Polya is from 2 months to 2 years. And the positive results of transplantation depends on the child's age and the number of blood transfusions: the smaller the child is and the fewer transfusions the child has, the better it is for a child. Polya doesn’t have time to wait - transplantation is needed now.

Now the mother is bringing Polya up alone, but even most of the complete families have no possibility to pay for such expensive treatment by their own. We ask everyone: help Polina survive!

The cost of transplantation in Turkey is 135 thousand dollars. Here we collect the part of the necessary amount.

March 10, Polina conducted a bone marrow transplant. The operation went according to plan, but after the operation, the girl was a reaction of graft versus host disease – transplanted marrow attacks the body of the girl. It led to intestinal bleeding and bleeding of the bladder. Therefore collected on UBB funds will be spent to pay for oxygen therapy. According to the doctors, it will reduce the severity of the reactions.

This project was canceled, the amount collected is 746 641,59 UAH. The funds were disposed of in accordance with the Rules, Principles, and Procedures of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace (UBB) International Charitable Fund and the decisions of the Project Donors.
