Vania moved to Dnipro on March 11, 2022 from Lysychansk, having spent two weeks in a cold basement under shelling. He found out that he had diabetes 4 months before the full-scale war. The family turned to us for help: to raise the necessary amount so that Ivan would have a year's supply of Freestyle Libre 2 sensors for daily blood glucose monitoring.

What caused diabetes in October 2021? There are various assumptions: the stress of the first grader or the deterioration of health.

At the same time, Ivan became lethargic, lost weight, and became very thirsty. The boy passed a blood test for glycated hemoglobin, which shows the average content of glucose in the blood over the past 3 months. The result was shocking – 12 mmol/l, and the norm is up to 6. The child was immediately hospitalized in the endocrinology department and prescribed insulin drugs: Epidra and Lantus.

At the same time, Anna learned that it is possible to use sensors to control the level of glucose: every 5 minutes, the device automatically measures the level for 14 days and displays the data on the monitor. The sensor also gives an alarm signal if the data deviates from the norm. This system allows Vania to control glucose levels as effectively as possible without pain and complications.

Ivan has already adapted and believes that diabetes is not a disease, but a way of life: glucose control, insulin injections, proper nutrition, daily routine, sports.

In September, Vania will go to the 3rd grade. He works online with his class from the Lysichan school, which is the only survivor in the entire city. The boy studies with pleasure, he especially likes to read, count, and study the world around him.

Sports play an important role in a child's life. Vania practiced kickboxing in his hometown. Now the financial situation of the family is difficult (they live in a rented apartment, only dad has the opportunity to work), so Ivan does not attend the section. Instead, he plays football in the yard with his friends.

We are fundraising to provide Vania with Freestyle Libre 2 sensors for a year. Let's help the child avoid terrible complications of the disease and pain from endless finger pricks!
