Last June, this 8-year-old girl from Kharkiv started a new life. Symptoms of an unexpected illness prompted tests. Unfortunately, the verdict of the doctors was the heaviest possible in this case. Varvara was diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes.
Since then, the girl and her mother have been living a strict life schedule associated with new challenges of the disease. Varvara has overcome her fear of injections and learned to control her blood sugar.
The girl is from an IDP family in Kharkiv. During the war, Varvara's parents lost their income, their business and their home, and they are unable to cope with the daily expenses for their daughter's treatment. The sensors that will help Varvara lead a full life are beyond their family budget. The state does not provide children with such devices. Without the sensors, Varvara has to have her fingers punctured 15 times a day to measure blood glucose. It is incredibly exhausting for the girl, not allowing her to be distracted from the insidious disease. The girl's mother asks for help to buy sensors for continuous glucose monitoring for her daughter.
