The big dreams of a little boy

      During birth, Artem suffered brain damage, which led to cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia and sensorineural deafness. Due to placental abruption, the child was born at 29 weeks of pregnancy, weighing only 1,200 g. Artem's main dream is to learn to walk. To make this possible, doctors prescribed an expensive neurosurgical operation – selective dorsal rhizotomy. 
      In accordance with cooperation agreement No. 21 between the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the charity operator Pomagaem Charitable Foundation dated 31 August 2020 and additional agreement No. 21.302 dated 10 March 2025, the project ‘Big Dreams of a Little Boy’ was posted on the website dobro.ua with the aim of attracting charitable donations to pay for the treatment of Artem Balakhonov.
On 17 April 2025, thanks to the donors of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange who closed Artem's fundraiser, we received UAH 147,000.00 (one hundred and forty-seven thousand hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's current account to pay for the child's treatment and project administration. 
      At the end of June this year, Artem underwent a long-awaited operation in Stryi at the International Centre for Neurosurgery. The surgery went well for the boy and lasted 4 hours. The doctor is satisfied with the result. This operation was extremely necessary for the child, as spasticity and muscle tension prevented him from functioning fully and undergoing rehabilitation. 
      The boy began rehabilitation at the end of July. Specialists note that the child's arms and legs have begun to function better, they have become softer, and the spasticity has disappeared. The boy also continues his classes at the speech therapy centre. Every day is scheduled. 
      His mother writes to us: ‘Thanks to the tremendous help of all the caring people, this event took place. Artemko finally underwent the long-awaited surgery. This is the first step towards recovery. In such difficult times, this help is simply invaluable to our family.’
      Currently, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the child's needs.
