Veronika: fighting for every step
Veronika Korostel was born prematurely at 36 weeks with a diagnosis of hypoxic-ischemic CNS damage, congenital malformation of the right lower limb, torticollis. Immediately after birth, she began to visit hospitals on a regular basis. Some diagnoses were confirmed, others were denied, but the situation was getting worse every day.
At the age of 6 months, Veronika was diagnosed with congenital myopia (short-sightedness) of both eyes, and it turned out that without glasses the child could not see anything at all. At the age of one, the child started wearing glasses, and a new diagnosis was added – hearing loss. In general, the girl's development was slow. The girl took her first very tentative steps when she was almost a year and a half old, and then she started wearing special shoes, because one of Veronika's legs was shorter than the other and the difference contributed to the spinal curvature. It was difficult for the girl to walk outside, so until the age of 7.5, she had to be transported in a wheelchair. The girl still does not speak.
Two years ago, Veronika underwent an expensive operation to lengthen her leg – she spent 6 months in bed, almost unable to move. The recovery is still ongoing, so Veronika desperately needs rehabilitation. The mother is raising her daughter alone and asks people who care to support the girl with her treatment.
