Cerebral palsy does not prevent nine-year-old Veronika from Korosten from enjoying life: in all the photos she shines with a smile. But in order to grow and not get sick, the girl needs medicine and special nutrition.
Veronika had to fight for her life from the first minutes. She was born at 35 weeks of pregnancy, underwent oxygen starvation, then there was intensive care and blood transfusion.
After 9 months, her parents learned that their daughter had cerebral palsy. Doctors did not believe that the child would be able to sit, let alone walk. But Veronika was able to!
Thanks to constant rehabilitation courses throughout Ukraine, the efforts of her relatives and the perseverance of Nika herself, she learned to sit, speak, and this year she graduated from the 2nd grade. Veronika is learning English, reads syllables, and counts to twenty.
The girl loves the cartoon "Lady Bug." Together with her mother, she makes talismans for the box, like in this cartoon. But many things are difficult: involuntary movements of the arms, legs and tongue (hyperkinesis) prevent her from speaking, eating, walking, even simply holding objects in her hand.
Now Veronika is undergoing rehabilitation in Kyiv. She is engaged in physical therapy, visits the pool and massage. Thanks to Nika's classes, she already has better control over her right hand, can sit upright, leaning on her hands, and has started speaking in sentences.
But because of hyperkinesis, which takes up a lot of energy, the girl has difficulty gaining weight. Only special mixtures Resource Junior and PediaSure help. Thanks to them, Veronika has gained 4 kg over the past year, which is important for her growth and development.
To maintain Veronika's health, she needs a set of medications: Betargin, Mydocalm, Aqua Maris, Nurofen, Carsil, Olidetrim, Herbion and Pulmicort. Without them, it is impossible to stabilize the child's condition and continue rehabilitation.
We are launching a fundraiser to provide Veronika with everything she needs for the next four months. Every hryvnia you donate is a contribution to the girl's health and development. Let's support Nika in her biggest dream – learning to walk!
