In the spring of 2021, Serhii contracted COVID-19. He felt weak, lost his appetite and weight, and later his acetone levels rose. The doctor did a blood test for glucose levels, and the result shocked everyone: 27.6 mmol/l, compared to the normal level of 5.
In accordance with cooperation agreement No. 21 between the Ukrainian Charity Exchange Charitable Foundation and the charity aid operator Pomagaem Charitable Foundation dated 31 August 2020 and supplementary agreement No. 21. 312 dated 6 May 2025, the project ‘War is trying to take away a child's health’ was posted on the website dobro.ua with the aim of attracting charitable donations to pay for the treatment of Serhiy Samoilov.
During the fundraising, it became necessary to use part of the funds collected on the website of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange Charitable Foundation (dobro.ua) to purchase some Freestyle Libre 2 sensors for the boy. Therefore, according to letter No. 179 dated 08.05.2025, we received the collected amount of 35,500.00 UAH (thirty-five thousand five hundred hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's account and continued the collection on the dobro.ua platform.
On 15.05.2025, thanks to the donors of the Ukrainian Charity Exchange, who closed Serhiy's collection, we received 19,738.00 UAH (nineteen thousand seven hundred and thirty-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks) to the Fund's current account to pay for treatment and project administration.
In May 2025, we purchased the much-needed Freestyle Libre-2 sensors for Serhii for a total amount of 40,140.00 UAH (forty thousand one hundred and forty hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and in June - for the amount of 12,468.00 UAH (twelve thousand four hundred and sixty-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks). We also paid for the administration of the project.
Serhiy is now enjoying the best period of his life: his fingers have finally healed from constant punctures. The boy can actively play sports, run with other children on the playground, while constantly monitoring his blood sugar levels. Serhiy has started playing the guitar, as his fingers no longer hurt. His sleep has also improved, as he no longer needs to wake up at night to check his sugar levels. His mother expresses her sincere gratitude for such extremely important help for her son.
Currently, all funds transferred from the Ukrainian Charity Exchange have been spent on the child's needs.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help, and the UBB team for their long-term cooperation!
