Olena Dubinina, PhD, is a research fellow of Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She is a young and talented scholar, specialist in the American and Comparative Literature.

In 2014 Olena was diagnosed cancer (Hodgkin lymphoma). She received chemotherapy and radiation therapy, but after the treatment the disease has come back with complications. Doctors say that this time she should be treated according to new protocols that include immunotherapy, high-dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant. Although this treatment can be helpful, it is rather expensive (“Adcetris”, a drug for immunotherapy, costs $2,500 for a bottle, and 44 bottles are needed for the treatment; stem cell transplant costs $20,000). This sum is too great for Olena’s family, but it is possible to collect it among people.
Please, help to collect a necessary amount of money for Olena Dubinina’s treatment!

Doctors say that there is a way to recover. But this requires a complex, comprehensive treatment that includes chemotherapy, immunotherapy and bone marrow transplant. However, these modern treatments are extremely expensive and Helena family is no longer able to master this amount alone. But you can raise money together and make important good deal!

Almost fifteen years Olena carefully studied the literature of the USA. As a result, in 2011 she published monograph OUTSIDE OR INSIDE? William Styron’s Works in the Context of Artistic Quest of Contemporary Literature. This fundamental work was highly appreciated by Ukrainian and foreign scholars. Other Olena’s essays on the world literature are devoted to the different aspects of the oeuvre of famous writers (W. Shakespeare, H. James, W. Faulkner, Th. Dreiser, J. Conrad, M. Proust, F. Kafka, F. Dürrenmatt, T. Capote, D. Barthelme, G. Vladimov), or consider social and cultural phenomena (Puritanism, Enlightenment, Southern Renaissance, American Existentialism, Postmodernism, etc.) In the sphere of Comparative literature Olena studies intermediality, imagology, history of the Comparative literature.

From 2006 till 2012 Olena lectured literary courses in Kyiv National Linguistic University. She was a scientific adviser of four magister’s theses on American literature. One of her magisters continues to study for PhD degree in Free University of Berlin.
Attentive and sensitive, Olena was always thoughtful for the problems of other people. Therefore, she believes that human kindness will help her as well.
Let’s save life of a scholar and a good person!
