Save Victoria's leg! 2

Bone cancer... It happened 5 years ago. Vika and her mom at the hospital, Vika after surgery, Vika and crutches, Vika and uncertain steps, Vika’s exhausted face after rehabilitation session – that’s a chronology of the girl’s life which we now see in the picture smiling and happy in a traditional embroidered shirt. The disease remained in the past, and two years ago an artificial endoprosthesis was inserted on the site of the removed bone. 

Many people united efforts to raise funds for it – almost 1.5 million UAH. Vika underwent one more surgery to insert it, through hard work and tears she learned to walk again. Now she is 13 years old – she has grown, and a healthy leg has become longer than the operated one. Artificial bone is not big enough, it has to be replaced again, the cost of the implant is a million UAH, again there is a choice without choice – a surgery she can’t do without.

Vika is limping again, her internal organs are displaced, her backbone is distorted, asymmetry has arisen. The quality of life, for which the struggle continued all the time, has fallen sharply and now she cannot run, jump or swim. Again the disease reminds itself and binds to a chair and to a bed.

Should we speak that the state purchases only non-expandable permanent prostheses that can help only those kids who don’t grow anymore? And that without people’s help her parents, an ordinary rural family, will never be able to buy a new implant?

We want Vika like all the children to forget about the disease and to be able to be like her peers, to live a full life, to go dancing, to wear dresses and heels. The medicine allows it, but without solving the financial problem it is impossible. Should money be a hindrance to a future full of dreams? The smallest support from all of us can make raising this million an easy task – and one more girl’s life will be happy.
