From the playground to the hospital. 4

With this campaign, we want to help little boy Maxim, whose life, as well as his family members’ lives, changed in one second. This incredibly cheerful, active and energetic child has fallen from a children's slide. This unfortunate fall has badly affected the boy’s health condition. Maxim got a head injury, undergoing brain surgery, tracheostomy and gastrostomy as a result. And now rehabilitation for him is a chance to restore his life.

His condition is not easy to treat: both treatment and rehabilitation will take a very long time. But there are positive results already that give us hope that the boy will be able to regain his brain and physical activity.

In the first days in the intensive care unit of the Odessa Regional Children's Hospital after losing consciousness, cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest, the doctors managed to pull this boy out of the clutches of death and stabilise his condition. Further treatment took place in the neuro-rehabilitation clinic in Brovary, Ukraine. The advantage of this clinic is the possibility to have both treatment and rehabilitation simultaneously by some of the best Ukrainian specialists. But the disadvantage, alas, is the high cost of treatment.

To date, Maxim has undergone four surgical interventions, various therapies and, fortunately, can already pronounce the word «mom». He watches cartoons with interest, he is also interested in everyone who enters his room, he can express his feelings a bit and tries to get back on his feet. This is an example of very positive dynamic in his recovery.

In the nearest future, the surgeons are planning to mend the hole in the boy’s skull with a titanium plate, which, in their opinion, will significantly improve Maxim's condition.

The process of restoring brain and physical activity is very long and painstaking, everything is interconnected and doctors deal with everything at the same time, stimulating the work of the whole organism, especially the child’s brain. Today, the child is making progress which gives doctors and parents hope for a maximum possible recovery.

We appeal to all Donors with a request to support this boy, he cannot stop his treatment but fight till the end. The capabilities of the brain are not fully understood but the dynamics can be either positive or negative (in case the interruption of treatment takes place). Let's give Maxim a chance!
