Bohdan is now an adult and a very gentle and kind young man. He loves music and dancing. He loves people and animals. His closest circle of friends is his family.
Immediately after birth, he was diagnosed with Down syndrome, which was confirmed by tests a month later. Bohdan had significant developmental delays, so he attended a local rehabilitation center for children with disabilities.
At the age of 9, another serious illness was added to these challenges – type 1 diabetes. Since then, the boy has been receiving insulin therapy. Getting used to constant injections was very difficult because he did not understand what was happening and why it was necessary. Many times, his mother and Bohdan stayed in the pediatric endocrinology department of the regional hospital: they selected insulin doses, underwent treatment, and tried to stabilize his condition.
Bohdan has severe diabetes. He has had the disease for 15 years, and his sugar levels are often poorly controlled. The difficulty is compounded by the fact that Bohdan cannot speak or take care of himself. He cannot say or show what is bothering him or how he feels. That is why sensors for continuous blood sugar monitoring are vital for him – they are literally a lifeline for his family and Bohdan himself.
Bohdan's parents love him very much and try to do everything possible to make him feel safe. The family is originally from Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region, which is currently under occupation. They were forced to leave because they could not obtain the necessary medicines and insulin, and it became impossible to live under constant pressure.
The war has left its mark on Bohdan's family. Due to the stress he has experienced, the boy is now afraid to sleep alone. His mother has cancer and is currently battling metastases, undergoing complex treatment that requires significant funds. His father works, but unfortunately, it is very difficult to cope financially. In addition, the family rents their home.
Sometimes life tests us so much that it seems impossible to endure. But the family sticks together, supports each other, and tries to stay positive, because we only have one life, and we must appreciate it for what it is.
The parents are asking caring people for help. For Bohdan, sensors are a way to control his diabetes and avoid dangerous situations. Let's support this family!
