Semen is 13 years old. He has dreams, talent and hobbies. The boy studies at an art school, loves to draw, dreams of learning to play the guitar.
A few years ago, the family heard the words that divided his life into “before” and “after”. The boy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. From that moment on, every day for Semen is not just childhood. It is a constant struggle for sugar levels. Finger pricks, insulin injections, day and night monitoring, fear of sharp drops and rises in glucose levels. This is life on a schedule, where even a small mistake can cost his health.
Semen is forced to be more mature than many of us. He already knows the price of every unit of insulin and every gram of carbohydrates eaten. But deep down, he dreams of something simple - to live like his peers: without constant anxiety, without fear of sugar, without the feeling of constant struggle.
Continuous monitoring sensors give Semen a little bit of freedom and peace and confidence to his parents at night. They allow him to see his sugar level in real time on his phone and not have to do 10-15 painful punctures every day, to respond in time to dangerous conditions with high and low sugar. And most importantly, they give Semen a chance to be a child, not just a “patient”.
Sensors are needed constantly, and this is a big financial burden for the family. We kindly ask you to support Semen.
At 13, life should be full of plans: school, first serious hobbies, walks with friends, dreams about the future… This is the age when you want to be independent, discover the world, be interested in new things and simply enjoy every day, and not live in fear.
Every hryvnia is a step towards a calmer life without constant fear.
