For Andriy's life after the transplantation
Andriy was one of the first persons in Ukraine to undergo lung transplantation having a complex diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. This is excellent news! The boy was allowed to return home two weeks after the operation. There are recovery and accommodation to a new life with healthy lungs ahead.
The first months are the most difficult in all senses. In particular, Andriy was prescribed thoroughgoing supportive treatment for the next three months. The cost of medicines is very high and, unfortunately, they are not included in the list of those to be provided at the expense of the budget. But their real price is even higher - they are needed to help new lungs work in Andrew's body. The success of transplantation largely depends on this postoperative period. The stakes are so high that there can be no concession here: the guy must have all the necessary treatment on time.
Besides, it is essential to monitor the new lungs' condition regularly: do they take well, does rejection develop, or are the doses of immunosuppressive medicines selected correctly? These tests are also formally to be paid for. Andriy's family has had many expenses over the last year due to the months of waiting for a transplant, a long stay in another country (Belarus), current examinations, and travel. Now they need our support to live through these first, most difficult months.
