Sasha can live without suffering

The world of thirteen-year-old Sasha is his own apartment, his mother and brother. And the bright spots in this life are balloons. Sasha loves them very much, so his older brother often inflates them for his younger brother. His mother takes care of Sasha and looks for funds to support him. Due to a serious illness, the boy cannot walk and talk, he breathes and eats through a tubes. The cost of food, consumables, hygiene products, and medicines for Sasha for one month is unaffordable for the family.

Until four months, Sasha developed like a normal child – he held his head, rolled over. And then, with a high fever and convulsions, he ended up in intensive care.

The fight for the baby's life, his treatment and rehabilitation began. At 11 months, Sasha sat up, at 3 years old he walked. At 7 years old he began to attend a specialized school. But the load on the brain increased seizures and caused a loss of skills. The boy began to stumble, fall; now he moves in a wheelchair.

In 2023, Oleksandr was diagnosed with a rare degenerative disease of the central nervous system: leukodystrophy. Eventually, it became clear why the disorders progressed.

At the same time, a tracheostomy was installed, which ensures the possibility of breathing. A week later, a gastrostomy was also installed: the child could no longer swallow. Since then, Sasha has only received enteral nutrition Nutrison multi fibre. 60 cans per month cost 28,757 UAH.

Sasha also needs diapers, wet wipes, gastrostomy and tracheostomy tubes, syringes, catheters and medicines to support digestion every day. This is another 16,565 UAH per month.

Currently, Sasha is undergoing treatment prescribed by a gastroenterologist: his body does not digest food well. The boy used to cry when he was in pain. Now his mother notices it by the trembling of his arms and legs.

The father does not participate in the child's life. All the care falls on the shoulders of mother Svitlana and her eldest son, sixteen-year-old Kostia.
