Up until the age of four months, Sasha was developing like any other child – he could hold his head up and roll over. Then, suffering from a high temperature and seizures, he was admitted to the intensive care unit. The fight for the little boy’s life, his treatment and rehabilitation began. In 2023, Oleksandr was diagnosed with a rare degenerative disease of the central nervous system: leukodystrophy.
In accordance with Cooperation Agreement No. 21 between the Charitable Organisation International Charitable Foundation ‘Ukrainian Charity Exchange’ and the Charitable Aid Operator Charitable Foundation ‘POMAGAYEM’ dated 31 August 2020, and Supplementary Agreement No. 21. No. 330 of 12 August 2025, the project ‘Sashko Can Live Without Suffering’ was posted on the website of the Charitable Organisation International Charitable Foundation ‘UBB’ – dobro.ua – with the aim of raising donations to cover the cost of Oleksandr Zadreiko’s treatment.
During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use part of the funds raised on the website of the Charitable Organisation International Charitable Foundation “Ukrainian Charity Exchange” – dobro.ua – to purchase food, consumables and hygiene products for the boy. Therefore, in accordance with letter No. 423 dated 19 August 2025, we received the collected sum of 34,120.00 UAH (thirty-four thousand one hundred and twenty hryvnias, 00 kopecks) into the Fund’s account and continued the fundraising campaign on the dobro.ua platform. A further 83,900.00 UAH (eighty-three thousand nine hundred hryvnias 00 kopecks) was credited to the Fund’s account in accordance with letter No. 559 dated 27 October 2025.
In 2025, we supported Oleksandr with medicines and consumables totalling 47,575.18 UAH (forty-seven thousand five hundred and seventy-five hryvnias, 18 kopecks).

The initial target amount for the project was 190,348.00 UAH (one hundred and ninety thousand three hundred and forty-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks). Once the full amount required to cover Sasha’s treatment had been raised on two fundraising platforms: the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the Pomagayem Charitable Foundation, we requested that the fundraising campaign be closed, that the project amount on the UBB be reduced to the amount actually raised – 167,503.00 UAH (one hundred and sixty-seven thousand five hundred and three hryvnias, 00 kopecks), and to transfer the remaining funds – 49,483.00 UAH (forty-nine thousand four hundred and eighty-three hryvnias, 00 kopecks) – to cover the boy’s treatment and project administration, in accordance with letter No. 185 dated 1 May 2026.
In early February 2026, the Zadreiko family approached us with a request to help the boy with hygiene products and consumables, which we did to the total amount of 8,062.50 UAH (eight thousand sixty-two hryvnias, 50 kopecks), in March, we helped purchase Nutrison Multi Fibre special formula, medicines and consumables worth 44,183.20 UAH (forty-four thousand one hundred and eighty-three hryvnias, 20 kopecks). In April, we purchased hygiene products and consumables worth 9,806.30 UAH (nine thousand eight hundred and six hryvnias, 30 kopecks).
At the end of April, Sasha’s condition deteriorated sharply. Doctors diagnosed pneumonia, accompanied by a high temperature and serious breathing difficulties. He was unable to breathe unaided, so he was put on oxygen support.
He was unable to breathe unaided, so he was put on oxygen support. His condition was so serious that Sasha had to be rushed to the intensive care unit, where he underwent a bronchoscopy to assess the condition of his airways.
In May, the doctors performed a more radical procedure. During the operation, the airways were cleared of granulation tissue and a larger tracheostomy was fitted, which improved the boy’s breathing and stabilised his condition. The situation is currently under control, but the child requires further monitoring and rehabilitation.
We plan to use the remaining unspent funds of 57,875.72 UAH (fifty-seven thousand eight hundred and seventy-five hryvnias, 72 kopecks) to meet Sashko’s needs in 2026.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the donors and partners of dobro.ua for their help, and to the UBB team for their long-standing cooperation!
