Until he was four months old, Sashko developed like any other child—he could hold his head up and roll over. Then, with a high fever and seizures, he was admitted to the intensive care unit. The fight for the baby’s life, his treatment, and rehabilitation began. In 2023, Oleksandr was diagnosed with a rare degenerative disease of the central nervous system: leukodystrophy.
In accordance with Cooperation Agreement No. 21 between the Charitable Organization International Charitable Foundation “Ukrainian Charity Exchange” and the Charitable Aid Operator, the Charitable Foundation “POMAGAYEM,” dated August 31, 2020, and Supplementary Agreement No. 21. No. 330 dated August 12, 2025, the project “Sashko Can Live Without Suffering” was posted on the website of the Charitable Organization International Charitable Foundation “Ukrainian Charity Exchange” (dobro.ua) with the aim of raising donations to cover the cost of Oleksandr Zadreiko’s treatment.
During the fundraising campaign, it became necessary to use a portion of the funds raised on the website of the Charitable Organization International Charitable Foundation “Ukrainian Charity Exchange” – dobro.ua – to purchase food, supplies, and hygiene products for the boy. Therefore, in accordance with Letter No. 423 dated August 19, 2025, we received the collected amount of 34,120.00 UAH (thirty-four thousand one hundred twenty hryvnias, 00 kopecks) into the Fund’s account and continued the fundraising campaign on the dobro.ua platform. An additional 83,900.00 UAH (eighty-three thousand nine hundred hryvnias, 00 kopecks) was credited to the Fund’s account as per Letter No. 559 dated October 27, 2025.
In 2025, we supported Oleksandr with medications and medical supplies totaling 47,575.18 UAH (forty-seven thousand five hundred seventy-five hryvnias, 18 kopecks).
The initial target amount for the project was 190,348.00 UAH (one hundred ninety thousand three hundred forty-eight hryvnias, 00 kopecks). Once the full amount needed to pay for Sasha’s treatment had been raised on two fundraising platforms—the Ukrainian Charity Exchange and the Pomagayem Charitable Foundation— we requested that the fundraiser be closed, that the project amount on the Ukrainian Charity Exchange be reduced to the amount actually raised—167,503.00 UAH (one hundred sixty-seven thousand five hundred three hryvnias, 00 kopecks)— and to transfer the remaining funds—49,483.00 UAH (forty-nine thousand four hundred eighty-three hryvnias, 00 kopecks)—to cover the boy’s medical treatment and project administration, in accordance with Letter No. 185 dated May 1, 2026.
In February 2026, we provided the boy with hygiene products and supplies totaling 8,062.50 UAH (eight thousand sixty-two hryvnias, 50 kopecks); in March, we helped purchase the special formula Nutrison Multi Fibre, medications, and supplies totaling 44,183.20 UAH (forty-four thousand one hundred eighty-three hryvnias, 20 kopecks). In April, we purchased hygiene products and supplies totaling 9,806.30 UAH (nine thousand eight hundred six hryvnias, 30 kopecks); in May, we provided special formula and supplies worth 30,578.76 UAH (thirty thousand five hundred seventy-eight hryvnias, 76 kopecks), and in June, we provided assistance to Sashko in the amount of 2,357.50 UAH (two thousand three hundred fifty-seven hryvnias, 50 kopecks).
Sashko is going through a difficult time right now. Frequent cramps caused by the constant heat are causing him discomfort and anxiety. On top of that, he’s facing a host of other problems that keep cropping up one after another. He was recently discharged from the hospital and is now at home. Although his condition has stabilized, it remains serious.
The boy is trying to cope with changes in his circadian rhythm—his day and night are reversed: he doesn’t sleep at night and tries to rest during the day. Caring for him requires his mother’s constant attention and effort. Every day, she takes care of him: she feeds and gives him water regularly, following a strict schedule.
We plan to use the remaining unused funds in the amount of 24,939.56 UAH (twenty-four thousand nine hundred thirty-nine hryvnias, 56 kopecks) to meet Sasha’s needs in 2026.
We sincerely thank the donors and partners at dobro.ua for their help, and the UBB team for their long-standing cooperation!
