Let's save Myron's vision
The Shevchenko family had been planning the birth of a child for more than two years. The future parents thought that as soon as they were morally and financially ready for a new addition to the family, everything would work out. Unfortunately, this did not happen. A full-scale war broke out. The family left their home in Kharkiv and went to their parents' village.
Fully immersed in the horrors of war, she found out she was pregnant. At 20 weeks, she was told the sex of her unborn child – it was a boy! – but at the same time, she was told that it was not that simple. On September 1, at 26 weeks of pregnancy, a son was born weighing 800 g and 34 cm tall. The child was immediately taken to the intensive care unit. And then there were two months in intensive care on a ventilator, antibiotics. Myron was covered in tubes: a catheter on his arm, a catheter on his leg, a tube in his mouth. The doctors did not promise anything. On the tenth day, they said that they had done everything they could, but his kidneys had failed. He was very weak.
On the eleventh day, when hope was already leaving the mother's heart, the next doctor said that the kidneys had started working. But it was too early to breathe out. The child's condition was consistently serious. And it remained so for another two months.
Myron had not yet learned to breathe on his own, and some doctors did not believe that he would succeed. And then the parents were told that the baby had retinopathy (retinal detachment). The first operation was when Myronchyk gained 1.68 kg of weight, and it went well. But 3 weeks later, the disease began to progress again. The boy was transferred to OKHMATDYT. Two surgeries on the left and right eyes followed. After 4.5 months in hospitals, the parents ran out of money. The husband lost his job and worked at temporary jobs. The mother, constantly in the hospital, was unable to apply for state aid for IDPs for the child in time.
Now Myron needs to undergo 2 more surgeries on each eye and remove the folds on the retina to preserve the living part of it that has not detached. The surgeries will be performed with an interval of about a month.
Myronchyk is growing up a cheerful kid. He does not see well, does not follow objects, and reacts only to light and voice. But his mother believes that together they will be able to save Myron's eyesight. His future depends on it!
