At the age of 5, Vania was diagnosed with diabetes. Insulin drugs had to be injected 10-15 times a day and fingers had to be pricked the same number of times to control glucose levels. With your help, we were able to purchase a pump that injects insulin at the right time. The family asks for our help to buy Freestyle Libre 2 sensors, a reader (reading device) and catheters for the pump.

At the age of 5, Vania lived an ordinary life, went to kindergarten and was getting ready to go to school. The parents attributed the weakness to the recent flu. But when thirst, frequent urination, and weight loss appeared, they decided to examine the child. The result of the analysis for glycated hemoglobin confirmed the fear: diabetes mellitus.

The prescribed insulin drugs did not keep glucose at the required level; it often dropped critically at night, threatening a hypoglycemic coma. The wounds from the punctures on the fingers did not have time to heal, they became inflamed, the skin became rough, making the punctures even more painful.

Ivan’s mother Oksana heard about the insulin pump, reader and sensors, and parents bought these devices for Vania. The pump, which acts as a healthy pancreas, is installed on the skin, and insulin is injected subcutaneously through a catheter. The subcutaneous sensor automatically measures glucose levels every 5 minutes. The reader reads this data and displays it on the family's smartphones.

These devices made it possible for Vania to finally study offline in the 6th grade; he enjoys gaining knowledge and communicating with his peers. The father got a job at a school to be close to his son. For several years before this, schools refused to admit an insulin-dependent child offline.

Vania has always been interested in robotics, and now his dream has come true: since last year he has been attending a computer science club and successfully completed the Introduction to Robotics course, where he himself modeled a 3-D house, equipping it with LEDs that turn on by voice command. Vania leads an active lifestyle: he rides a bicycle and performs tricks on it, rides a scooter, punches a punching bag, and plays football.

Since Ivan is now in adolescence, hormonal surges occur, greatly increasing glucose and causing acetone syndrome. Parents have to resort to IVs to support the liver, heart, and kidneys. This takes the lion's share of the family budget.

The parents cannot raise enough money to buy Vani the Freestyle Libre 2 sensors, the reader and the Quick-set pump catheters, which will last 10 months. Let's help Vanya live a full life!
