Ostap is a kind, curious, and dreamy nine-year-old boy. He loves swimming and is passionate about building LEGO models. He can spend hours assembling mechanisms, coming up with new designs, and rejoicing when they start moving. Like all children, Ostap wants to run, learn, do the things he loves, and simply enjoy his childhood. But for several years now, his life has been shaped by a disease – type 1 diabetes.
Every day, the boy lives by a schedule that children do not choose: constant blood sugar checks, insulin injections, and monitoring his diet and well-being. His parents even have to wake up at night to check his glucose levels, as they can drop or rise sharply. It is a constant worry and a huge responsibility.
The family is raising three children – Ostap and his two younger sisters. One of them, Katrusya, has an autism spectrum disorder and requires ongoing rehabilitation, sessions with specialists, and support. The parents are doing their utmost to give each child the best possible care, but treatment and rehabilitation entail significant financial costs.
Their greatest dream is to give Ostap more safety and peace of mind. Continuous glucose monitoring sensors exist for this purpose. They measure blood sugar levels 24 hours a day without constant finger pricks and warn of dangerous drops or spikes. For Ostap, this would mean less pain, a more restful sleep for him and his parents, the ability to swim more safely, and more time for his favorite activities: building and learning.
Unfortunately, these sensors are too expensive, and the family cannot afford to use them on a regular basis on their own. The parents are reaching out for help and are sincerely grateful to everyone who opens their heart to their family.
Every hryvnia is a step toward helping Ostap live more peacefully, grow, dream, swim, build his LEGO models, and simply be a child.
