Darynka is an incredibly sociable and sensitive girl. Above all, she loves animals: the family's farm and domestic animals have become her best friends, and in the future she dreams of becoming a veterinarian so she can treat them. Unfortunately, the girl herself has an incurable disease. Born healthy, one day Darynka began to feel lethargic, complaining of headaches and constant thirst. Several tests and examinations revealed the child's illness – type I insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
Since then, the family's life has changed dramatically. Darynka's glucose levels fluctuate greatly, so she needs constant supervision: to school, at school, and from school. Endless finger pricks and insulin injections cause the child immense pain.
In addition to physical and emotional stress, the disease also puts a financial strain on the family. Darynka's family is large: she lives with her parents, two older children, grandmother, grandfather, and great-grandmother. Only her father and grandfather work, while her mother takes care of the children. The state provides such patients with insulin only, while the rest of the essential medical supplies must be purchased at their own expense (lancets, needles, alcohol wipes for injections, test strips with co-payment, or sensors). Daryna needs help with continuous glucose monitoring sensors, which can make her life much easier and allow her to live without constant supervision.
