Dima is a creative, sociable and indescribably strong child. His difficult journey began even before the expected date of birth: his mother went into labor at 39 weeks, and an emergency cesarean section had to be performed. But the child was born healthy – or at least it seemed so at first. At the age of two months, Dima's temperature spiked, and a week later he had his first seizures. The boy was hospitalized with a meningoencephalitis reaction.
Since then, the family has practically lived in the intensive care unit. Dmytro began to learn about life through pain, medication, blood transfusions, and a lot of tests. After a year and a half of tireless and careful work, the doctors managed to find the drugs that kept him in remission. Genetic analysis finally revealed the true cause of the child's illnesses – epilepsy of genetic origin. He is absolutely not allowed to get sick or overheat, even a minimal fever becomes a seizure trigger.
Thanks to a clear diagnosis and appropriate treatment, Dmytro's life began to improve gradually. Although the epileptic seizures have not completely disappeared, they have become much less frequent. The boy likes to draw, model and build construction sets, and loves to go for walks with his friends and brother. This fall he was supposed to go to first grade, but the disease caused some delays in the boy's development. Dima is working with a speech therapist, psychologist and rehabilitation specialist, but each seizure is a setback in development, so the child has to learn everything all over again. At such a young age, Dima has already gone through enough hospitals, pain and fear for several lifetimes to come – give the boy a chance for a normal life.
