Babies lives are under threat!

There is a compressor room in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Children’s Hospital. Such compressors deliver oxygen to devices for artificial ventilation which the smallest patients are always connected to. Compressors emit warmth during its work and that is why the compressor room requires artificial cooling. The cooling system consists of two air-conditioners one of which is currently out of order. The spare air conditioner is so far managing the load. However this freelance mode won’t last forever.

What’s more the weather is likely to become hotter within the next two weeks. What threat does it mean? The babies can die. The overheating of the compressors will stop the work of devices for artificial ventilation which is the direct threat to all little patients. 

This problem already occurred in 2013 and was successfully solved by the emergency fund of the "Happy Child" charity foundation. Something was changed or cleaned and it brought the device back to life for two more years. The foundation has financed the cleaning of the air conditioners this year but nothing works forever and one of the conditioners could not be saved.

If it is so vital why cannot the hospital afford to pay for the repair? It is not a secret that there is an acute shortage of hospital funds and repair of devises is not included into the budget. There is hardly any money available for basic needs. It is a big system problem which should be solved sooner or later but the little patients often have no time to wait.
