Let’s warm babies!

One of the serious enemies, expecting for new-born babies in the world is hypothermia, overcooling. The resolution of this problem is quiet simple – if you satisfied and lie on the warm mother’s abdomen. But, mother sometimes should get up, eat, rest … If the baby is premature born, it couldn’t exist without additional source of warm. Then, it’s time for special water mats with heating! The main children’s hospital of Ukraine «Okhmatdet» is extremely in need of them.

Risk of overcooling of babies is extremely high even in the countries with warm climate. Hypothermia is often rising in winter, and in the regions where variances in temperature are in day and night. Just after the delivery, the baby turns out in cold environment. Such overcooling is normal and promotes the beginning to breath by baby itself. During the first days of baby, thermo regulation possibilities of baby are low, another words its temperature is totally dependent on environment.

If the baby’s body is dry and he is dressed or has skin-to-skin contact with its mother (father), the baby will feel itself very comfortable. Subcutis is the basis for heat insulation of baby’s body against losses of warm and children who was born with low weight is the main focus group. If the baby’s weight is lower than 2.5 kg or after its delivery it was rendered assistance with resuscitator, it is usually necessary to have additional warming.

The most reliable and safe «warm place» for baby is its mother. Close skin-to-skin contact in contrast with other methods of warming never leads to overheating. Hot water bottles and other similar facilities can cause burns and their use is dangerous. Even in such wonderful source of warm as a mother there is one small drawback: mother should sometimes have a time for rest and food. The solution of this situation is heating device for newborn, using water mat with regulator of temperature.

However, there is a severe shortage of these devices – mats - in the premature infants’ intensive care division of the main children’s hospital of Ukraine «Okhmatdet». We kindly ask you to raise money to buy such necessary devices. Let’s warm little hands and legs all together!
