Throughout the civilized world, there is one indisputable rule: it is not the patient who should go to the equipment, but vice versa - the equipment should be near the patient. Especially when it comes to the smallest and most vulnerable - children in critical condition. When it comes to minutes or even seconds, every second of delay can cost lives. That is why medical equipment in intensive care units (ICUs) should not only be “available” but constantly at every bedside. It is not a luxury, but a safety standard and a chance for life.
Currently, St. Nicholas Hospital has three children's intensive care units that save the lives of nearly 1070 critically ill children from all over Ukraine every year: pediatric (12 beds, 504 patients in 2024), neonatal (12 beds, 289 patients in 2024), cardiac (6 beds, 274 patients in 2024), and the fourth one, neuro intensive care (6 beds), will open very soon. These departments are located not only on different floors, but also in different buildings of the hospital. It is technically and logistically impossible to move equipment from one intensive care unit to another when a child has a cardiac arrest or when it takes 5 minutes to assess why the condition has deteriorated. In addition, the same equipment may be needed in several different intensive care units at the same time, and doctors are faced with a terrible choice: whom to save.
Each intensive care unit must be autonomously staffed to ensure children's right to timely, high-quality and safe medical care. That is why we are asking for help in purchasing critical equipment.
Kyivstar provides its subscribers with the opportunity to quickly and conveniently transfer funds to children's intensive care units.
The amount of the contribution does not matter, because every hryvnia helps a good cause. Get involved and send a message.
