Arina dreams of hearing this world again

Arina was born in 2014, two months after her mother urgently left Donetsk, trying to save the lives of herself, her five-year-old son and her unborn daughter. At 7 months, Arina suffered from a sore throat, which led to severe hearing damage.

Tamila is raising two children alone – their father only helps financially a little from time to time. In 2014, Tamila had to urgently take her son Bogdan away from Donetsk: the city was under shelling. She was then 6 months pregnant.

The family settled in Kamianske. Two months later, Arina was born. At 7 months old, the baby fell ill with a sore throat and had a very high temperature for three days until the antibiotic took effect. Soon the mother began to notice that Arina stopped responding to loud sounds. An examination by an audiologist showed sensorineural hearing loss, and hearing aids were prescribed.

The first devices were bought for Arina when she was one and a half years old – her grandparents, who were then still alive, helped financially. The service life of the devices is, at best, about 5 years, if the hearing does not deteriorate. The following devices, which the girl still uses, were bought by her grandfather a month before his death.

About four months ago, Tamila noticed that her daughter no longer responded to her greeting after returning from work, although she used to always run to greet her as soon as she heard the sound of the door opening. In December 2023, Arina underwent a routine examination at the Slukh-Service center in Dnipro. It turned out that her hearing had deteriorated greatly, and the devices could no longer cope. Now, except for you and we, there is no one to help Arina.

Arina studies in the 2nd grade of a specialized school. The teacher notes her excellent visual memory and high literacy. Arina is a kind, sympathetic girl. She happily takes care of her dog Luna, a turtle and fish, loves to dance and draw pictures she likes.
