Cherkasy: we sew the most necessary things

The war united Ukrainians and showed how strong we are as a nation. Today, each of us does what he can do best and brings Ukraine's victory over the occupiers closer. As in every city in our country, Cherkasy residents have united, volunteers here sew blankets, pillows, warm clothes, balaclavas and linen, weave nets and cook hot meals.

So, on the basis of the Dneprovsky Refugee Assistance Center, women and men organized a volunteer center to help refugees, participants in the terrorist defense, the elderly and vulnerable categories of the population of Cherkasy and the Cherkasy region. During the pandemic, protective suits and protective equipment were sewn here during covid-19 and provided free of charge to hospitals, organizations, boarding schools, and now blankets, pillows, mattresses, warm clothes, underwear for the army are sewn here.

Since the beginning of the war, the volunteers of this center, who have experience in sewing, have been making and donating 100 pieces of underwear, 20 blankets and up to 100 pillows daily for free to organizations, schools and other institutions hosting refugees, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and defenders at checkpoints, boarding schools and people who are on the verge of poverty. For this, there are 3 electric machines and an overlocker. In total, since the beginning of the war, the volunteers of the center have been able to sew more than 500 blankets, 7,500 pillows, 150 sets of bed linen 150, 5,000 pieces of underwear, 600 pairs of warm socks 600 and 1,000 signal bandages.

All products that are produced in the sewing workshop fly apart instantly. However, due to the high demand for these goods, the material from which things are made is quickly running out.Therefore, we now really need chintz (10 rolls), synthetic winterizer (10 rolls) and fleece (10 rolls). There is also a need for scissors. From 10 rolls of cotton we can make 2000 pairs of underwear, from 10 rolls of synthetic winterizer - 100 blankets and 100 pillows. From 10 fleece rolls we can sew 4800 balaclavas. However, ordinary machines do not sew knitwear, so for this we need the Bernina Bernette FunLock B42 cover stitching machine.

Thanks to this project, we will be able to purchase a sewing machine for making balaclavas and buffs and materials for sewing warm clothes, underwear, blankets and pillows in order to provide them to residents of Cherkasy and the Cherkasy region who find themselves in difficulty, internally displaced persons temporarily staying in the region, and those who stood up for the defense of the Cherkasy region.
