Help for two young hearts

Bohdan and Sofiia from Odesa are brother and sister. The girl has undergone two heart surgeries, while the boy was unable to start first grade because of frequent pneumonia. They need medications that help support Sofiia’s heart and make breathing easier for Bohdan.

In June, Sofiia turned five years old. She loves drawing, making mosaics, and inventing fairy tales. This little dreamer had already undergone two major heart surgeries by the age of three.

The family learned about their daughter’s heart defect in May 2022. At that time, the eleven-month-old baby was hospitalized with pneumonia. The family was living in a refugee camp in Romania after fleeing Odesa because of the war.

During examinations, doctors discovered a large hole in Sofiia’s heart, which had caused it to enlarge to nearly twice its normal size. She urgently underwent surgery, but just a week later a second operation was required because fluid had accumulated around her heart and lungs.

Two years have passed since then. Sofiia takes Agvantar, Magne-B6, Cardonat, Broncho-Munal, and other medications every day. Thanks to this treatment, her heart functions more steadily and the risk of serious complications is reduced.

Her brother Bohdan was diagnosed with bronchial asthma in the fall of 2025. Before that, he frequently suffered from severe bronchitis and pneumonia. Sometimes he struggles to breathe and requires urgent medical attention. Because of this, the parents postponed his enrollment in first grade.

To control his condition, Bohdan takes Singulair, Berodual, Erius, and other medications.

Sofiia always supports her brother, and Bohdan deeply cares about his sister and celebrates every one of her achievements. Bohdan enjoys building with construction sets and solving puzzles, while Sofiia dreams of visiting the sea this summer. They also adore their beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Teia.
