Platon’s story from Dnipro is one of years of rehabilitation, countless therapy sessions, and a strong desire to become independent. Thanks to his determination and the unwavering support of his parents, he attends school, enjoys creative activities, and has many friends. But his rehabilitation cannot be interrupted. This July, specialists at the "Ioanniv Center" are expecting him for another rehabilitation course.
Platon was born at 32 weeks of pregnancy. After birth, he was unable to breathe on his own and was placed on a mechanical ventilator. Two weeks later, doctors were finally able to remove him from the ventilator. He began breathing independently, and it seemed that the worst was over. But soon afterward, he suffered a brain hemorrhage and had to be placed back on life support.
Later, Platon’s parents received the diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Further examinations revealed additional health conditions, including spastic diplegia, thoracolumbar scoliosis, and partial optic nerve atrophy. But his parents refused to let these diagnoses define their son’s future.
Since then, Platon’s life has been filled with continuous rehabilitation and therapy at home. Every new skill he gains is the result of his determination, the support of his family, and the dedication of rehabilitation specialists. Regular physical therapy helps reduce muscle spasticity, strengthen his muscles, improve coordination, and preserve the progress he has achieved.
This year, Platon advanced to the 8th grade. He studies in an inclusive education program and especially enjoys world literature classes and spending time with his friends. After school, he attends a theatre studio, takes vocal lessons, and enjoys swimming and drawing. The person closest to his heart is his younger brother, Myron. Together they always find reasons to laugh, play, and go on little adventures.
Even a short break in rehabilitation can lead to increased spasticity and the loss of skills Platon has worked so hard to achieve. That is why Plato is scheduled to attend a two-week rehabilitation program at the "Ioanniv Center". The goal of the program is to maintain his progress, improve his physical condition, and help him become more independent.
Please support this young man. Every donation is another step toward his recovery and new achievements!
